Color/value study of the next piece. I took this candid shot of my two little guys and couldn’t wait to try to put it on paper. The drawing is almost done and ready to go. Stay tuned!
I love this just the way it is. I know you will do a great job with this painting, as you always do, but I can’ttake my eyes off of this study. I am hungry for those illustrations we used to see, in books. You have captured that here. Very fitting style for an illustration of children reading.
Thanks for the vote of confidence! I hope I can reproduce what I see in my head onto the actual painting.
Lately I have felt that there was something missing in some of my pieces, that they were flat, or…..”something”. Thanks to your blog and some other artists’ that you link to, I have figured it out. Value! I have been so consumed with color lately that I completely forgot about the basic concept of rendering an object three dimensional. So this was first a value study, then secondly a way to work out some of the color.
I know what you mean about great illustrations in children’s books. Since my children are only 6 and 2 there is an abundance of children’s books in my house! As I am reading to them I find myself critiquing and analyzing the artwork and illustrations! It’s like I am discovering them again for the first time, but from a whole new perspective.
